Validation errors can feel opaque the first time, especially close to a deadline. In practice, most rejections trace back to one of a small number of root causes.
1. Out-of-balance financial statements
BizFinx validation fails if total assets do not equal total equity plus liabilities. This usually traces back to a sign error on a single line item — check the most recently edited rows first.
2. Wrong template selected
Choosing Full XBRL when your company qualifies for Simplified (or vice versa) causes validation against the wrong element set. Confirm your eligibility using the S$500,000 test in our Full vs Simplified guide before you start tagging, not after.
3. Misclassified line items
A common mistake is tagging "trade and other receivables" entirely under "trade receivables," omitting the "other receivables" subtag. Errors like this are easy to make and easy to miss until validation flags them.

4. Missing mandatory notes
Note disclosures — accounting policies, segment reporting, related party transactions — sit in separate tabs of the BizFinx template and are easy to overlook, even when the main financial statement figures are complete and correct.
5. Outdated BizFinx version
ACRA updates BizFinx to match taxonomy changes; since 25 February 2026 the current version is v4.0, built on ACRA Taxonomy 2026 v1.0. A file prepared with an outdated version can fail validation for reasons unrelated to your actual data.
A practical order to check things in
- Confirm you're using the current BizFinx version.
- Confirm the correct template (Full vs Simplified) was selected.
- Check that total assets equal total equity plus liabilities.
- Re-check note disclosures in every tab, not just the main statement tabs.
- Re-check classification of receivables, payables, and other commonly split line items.
If validation errors persist after working through this list, ACRA's official BizFinx user guides document specific error codes in detail, and a corporate service provider can take over tagging entirely if complexity is the real bottleneck.
