Is xbrlsingapore.com an official ACRA or government website?
No. XBRL Singapore is an independent, privately run educational resource. It is not operated by, affiliated with, or endorsed by the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) or any Singapore government agency. For official filings, always use ACRA's own BizFile+ portal.
Do I need to file XBRL if my company is small?
Almost certainly yes, though the template may differ. Small companies meeting the S$500,000 revenue-and-assets test can use Simplified XBRL rather than Full XBRL — but this is not the same as being exempt from filing altogether. See our Full vs Simplified XBRL guide.
What is the difference between Full and Simplified XBRL?
Simplified XBRL is a reduced template covering roughly 120 financial statement highlights, available only if both revenue and total assets are S$500,000 or less. Full XBRL is the complete, fully-tagged financial statement, and is the default for everyone else.
Is the Simplified XBRL threshold the same as the audit exemption threshold?
No — this is a common point of confusion. The audit exemption test uses much higher thresholds (commonly around S$10 million revenue and assets). The Simplified XBRL test is a separate, lower S$500,000 threshold specific to which XBRL template you use.
What happens if my company is dormant?
A dormant relevant company may be exempt from preparing or filing financial statements entirely if it meets all conditions under Section 201A of the Companies Act — but this is a specific statutory test, not a general size or activity impression. See our dormant and exempt companies guide.
What's the deadline for XBRL filing in Singapore?
It's tied to your Annual Return, which runs from your financial year end: 5 months for listed companies, 7 months for non-listed companies. See our filing deadlines guide.
What happens if I file XBRL late?
ACRA composition fines typically start around S$300 per offence and escalate for repeated lateness, up to S$500–S$600. Persistent non-compliance can also lead to director disqualification for up to 5 years.
Can I prepare my own XBRL filing, or do I need a corporate service provider?
BizFinx is free and available for any company to use directly. Many companies still engage a CSP for complex filings, particularly for Full XBRL where taxonomy mapping is more involved. Both routes are legitimate.
How does Singapore's XBRL system compare to Malaysia's or the UK's?
Singapore and Malaysia both provide free preparation tools and size-based simplified routes. The UK's incoming regime (from 2028) covers all companies but requires paid commercial software, with no free government tool. See our global comparison guide.
