XBRL Glossary

Every acronym and term used across these guides, defined in one place.

XBRL

eXtensible Business Reporting Language — the international, open data standard used to tag financial data so it can be read and processed by computers, not just humans.

ACRA

The Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority — Singapore's regulator for company registration and statutory filings, including XBRL.

ACRA Taxonomy

The standardised dictionary of approved reporting elements (tags) that financial data is mapped against when preparing an XBRL filing. Current version: 2026 v1.0.

BizFinx

ACRA's free, downloadable preparation tool for creating and validating XBRL financial statements. Current version: v4.0 (since 25 February 2026).

BizFile+

ACRA's online business filing portal, where the Annual Return and linked XBRL financial statements are lodged.

Full XBRL

The default, complete XBRL financial statement template, used by companies that don't qualify for Simplified XBRL.

Simplified XBRL

A reduced XBRL template (roughly 120 data elements) available to companies whose revenue and total assets are both S$500,000 or less.

FS Highlights (FSH)

A specialised XBRL template for banks and MAS-regulated insurance entities, distinct from the standard Full/Simplified split.

Dormant Relevant Company

A company that may be exempt from preparing or filing financial statements entirely if it meets all conditions under Section 201A of the Companies Act.

Solvent Exempt Private Company (EPC)

A private company — broadly, with no corporate shareholders and generally fewer than 20 individual shareholders — that is solvent and may qualify for exemption from filing financial statements.

Seamless Filing

A filing method using ACRA-approved accounting software to prepare and file directly, currently supporting Simplified XBRL only.

Corporate Service Provider (CSP)

A paid third party engaged to prepare and file XBRL financial statements on a company's behalf.

Composition Fine

An administrative penalty for late filing, typically starting around S$300 per offence and escalating with repeated lateness.

Annual Return (AR)

A yearly statutory filing lodged with ACRA via BizFile+, which for most companies includes the XBRL financial statements.

SFRS / SFRS for Small Entities

Singapore Financial Reporting Standards — the accounting frameworks companies use to prepare financial statements before XBRL tagging.
